New versions of the software were released every 1 to 4 years, with DrawPlus X8 being the final version. It coincided with the launch of PagePlus 3.0. The first standalone version of the program, DrawPlus 2.0, was published in 1994.

Supported platforms ĭrawPlus was developed for Linux and Microsoft Windows and is fully compatible with Windows XP, Windows Vista (32/64bit), Windows 7 (32/64bit) and Windows 8 (32/64bit). Both variants support SVG import and export to provide compatibility with other vector editing software. DrawPlus supports pressure-sensitive vector lines and brushes to create a striking range of effects from manga through to painting in an array of media.ĭrawPlus is available both as a paid-for version, DrawPlus X8, or as a cut-down Starter Edition which is completely free. Both applications feature a Pressure Studio to allow calibration of the individual devices and allow functions to be mapped to the supported buttons on the tablet. DrawPlus is also able to produce Stop frame and Key frame animations, including output to Adobe Flash swf file format and support for ActionScript.ĭrawPlus X8 and Starter Edition offer support for pressure-sensitive input devices such as Wacom's range of tablets. In addition to traditional vector drawing tools, DrawPlus provides realistic, natural-looking brushes that allow the user to paint with watercolours, oils and other media whilst retaining vector editing capability. Serif have ceased development of DrawPlus in order to focus on its successor, Affinity Designer, following its release for Windows. That is the way I look at it.DrawPlus is a 2D vector graphics editor and animation software developed by the UK-based software company Serif, also responsible for PhotoPlus, PagePlus, WebPlus, Digital Scrapbook Artist, Affinity Designer, Affinity Photo and other titles. Why the money saved could help pay for the yearly Gold or Silver support for Harmony/Storyboard. So, $120 for Affinity Designer or $2400 for Adobe Illustrator over a 10 year span. If you were to have a monthly Adobe Illustrator CC plan for 10 years that could be as much as $2400. Say they have 3 versions, 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 in a 10 year span, if you buy each version when it is on sale, you might spend $120. Then when version 2.0 debuts you would have to buy that again. You get free updates up until the next whole version number. $50 is the usual price, I bought Designer when it was on sale for $40. I started out with Macromedia Freehand back in the day and then begrudgingly had to move to Illustrator when Adobe decided they were not going to develop it any further once they bought Macromedia. I don’t know if I will ever be able to completely get rid of my Adobe CC apps but I am really rooting for Serif and their apps.

ANIMATION IN AFFINITY PHOTO UPDATE

That is how I feel most of the time when I open Photoshop and Illustrator anymore.Īffinity is pretty fast and nimble, even on older hardware and they are due to update both apps (Designer and Photo) soon with new features. Do they have ALL the features of Adobe’s apps? No, but there is something to be said for having an app that does not feel so damn bloated with every possible feature and function regardless of whether they are useful or not. Howdy, even though I use Photoshop and Illustrator, I do have both Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo and I really enjoy using both.
